چکیده

To date, there is little information in the literature that hypersensitivity pneumonitis due to birds may occur without direct contact to birds. A 62-yr-old pensioner developed mild flu-like symptoms, fatigue and polyuria several hours after each meeting with his new female partner, either in hotels or his apartment. After divorcing from her ex-husband, who was a canary fancier, the female had moved into a bungalow ,6 months earlier. When the couple met for the first time at the bungalow, the patient’s symptoms worsened and he developed shortness of breath. The patient had never entered the bird house or the married couple’s house. Hypersensitivity pneumonitis was demonstrated by chest radiography, computed tomography, a restrictive ventilatory defect, decreased diffusion capacity and hypoxaemia after physical exercise. Sensitisation to canaries was shown by immunoassays. Canary antigens were detected by a polyclonal immunoassay at different locations of the married couple’s house and the female’s bungalow, where no birds had ever been kept. In conclusion, hypersensitivity pneumonitis should be recognised as a further consort disease, i.e. a disease that can be transmitted by partners.

Hypersensitivity pneumonitis associated with the use of temozolomide.

The aim of the present study was to investigate a case of hypersensitivity pneumonitis associated with the use of temozolomide in the treatment of gliosarcoma. A 54-yr-old female developed dyspnoea, cough and hypoxia after surgical resection for gliosarcoma and adjuvant radio- and chemotherapy with temozolomide. A high-resolution computed tomography scan of the thorax showed a bilateral ground-...

Hypersensitivity pneumonitis associated with temozolomide.

In the March 2009 edition of the European Respiratory Journal, KOSCHEL et al. [1] reported the case of a 54-yr-old female presenting with pneumonia associated with the use of temozolomide and whose clinical and radiographic presentation and anatomo–pathological signs were consistent with hypersensitivity pneumonitis. During the phase II trials preceding the marketing of this alkylating agent, w...

Application of hypersensitivity skin testing in chemotherapy-induced pneumonitis.

Skin testing has been utilised to determine the culprit allergenic agent in drug reactions. Its application in the setting of hypersensitivity reaction relating to combination chemotherapeutic regimens may help identify the causative drug, allowing drug that is safe to be continued and avoiding limiting treatment options for patients. We report what we believe to be the first published case of ...

A case of familial hot tub lung

Hot tub lung is a lung disease caused by Mycobacterium avium complex. We report the first case of familial hot tub lung appearing simultaneously in a husband and wife. Our case supports the consideration that hot tub lung is a hypersensitivity pneumonitis rather than an infectious lung disease. It also suggests that the state of hot tub lung changes seasonally depending on temperature variation...

Pathology of hypersensitivity pneumonitis.

PURPOSE OF REVIEW Hypersensitity pneumonitis, caused by inhalation of various antigens, is characterized by interstitial mononuclear cell infiltration, nonnecrotizing granulomas, cellular bronchiolitis, and fibrosis. The pathological picture of chronic hypersensitivity pneumonitis is, however, complicated; it is sometimes difficult to differentiate chronic hypersensitivity pneumonitis from idio...
